Goldray at the Bassment Chelmsford  7th October 2016

I had a feeling all week that something special was going to happen on Friday night at the Bassment as Jon Morter had contacted me and recommended the gig. I just knew that it was going to be a magical night. I had viewed the new single “Soulchild” on youtube and also “Outloud” and instantly fell in love with this band. Goldray are a psychedelic rock band with Kenwyn House formerly from Reef on guitar, Leah Rasmussen on vocals, Geoff Laurens on bass and Chris Hardwick on drums.

The band have been busy playing out live at various gigs and festivals including Download festival, Bestival, Glastonbury, Camden Rocks festival and are soon to headline the Camden Christmas Rock bash on December the 17th. . The band are currently finishing recording their full debut album, which is being mixed by renowned rock producer/mix engineer Pedro Ferreira.

The opening song was "Outloud" and this was enough to completely captivate the audience, the mic was decorated with flowers and Leah came on with a full 1960s -70s looking colourful cape and danced around the stage making waves. I was taken right back to my early youth back in the 70s and could have easily been in the 60s had I been a bit older, it somewhat reminded me of Alex Harvey gigs possibly because Leah is such a great front performer and Kenwyn is a brilliant guitarist.

I felt very privileged in the Bassment as its not often you see such a quality band in a very small venue, the sound was spot on perfect and would have made a very good live recording. The next track was "Diamond Road". Leah has a wonderful voice and reminded me of a cross between Kate Bush and Siouxsie Sioux.

The concert continued with “Rising” that I understood was a new song and probably my favorite of the night, followed by "Oz"(segway) . The last song of the night was the new single soon to be released called "Soulchild" that saw Leah singing and lying on the stage floor to be eventully pulled up by Kenwyn. All I can say is that this will certainly be in my top gigs of all time and I cycled back to Great Baddow with a smile on my face all the way home and woke up still feeling the same. Many thanks to Jon Morter and promoter Shakey for this one.
