Malcolm Bruce Bond Street Bowl, Chelmsford. 24th June 2018.

After another great week end it all ended up at Bond Street to see son of Jack Bruce, Malcolm. It all started Friday night at the Bassment to see a friend’s band the Dram Llamas. A good fun rock band doing covers from the likes of Tenacious D, Fountains of Wayne and such like. Really enjoyed them and recommend. On Saturday, out to Tracy and Steve’s house party. Felt really lucky to be at this one, there are not many times you can go to a party in a house and have top quality Northern Soul DJ’s playing all vinyl to a proper soul crowd. They are both fantastic hosts and I hope you enjoyed your birthday Tracy.

This all lead to the Sunday. First of all I was out with my son in Grand Central watching England, a bit of an unbelievable game and an unbelievable price for a beer. £5.40 a pint (ouch), should have gone to the Steamer. After this we went to the Fleece which was good fun, seemed like a second party for the weekend. A lot of very drunk people for 3 in the afternoon.

After this I popped down to Bond Street for the finish of the weekend gigs of the Chelmsford Arts and Culture Festival. This part is of the festival is put on by Nick Garner, another promoter who works hard to keep music alive in Chelmo. I got there to see the tail end of the Jamie Williams and the Roots Collective, a good band who were finishing off by playing a bit of RnB. Next on was Malcolm Bruce, Malcolm is the son of Cream’s Jack Bruce. I have seen him before and know him as a really talented blues guitarist. He went through a jamming session including “Born under a bad sign” ”Sitting on top of the world,” twice, “Red House” with Nick garner on harmonica and many other blues classics. All in all top quality free entertainment, just a shame that more people don’t turn up for these kinds of things.

If you are about in Chelmsford next Saturday the 30th of June we have the Fling Festival in Hylands Park. Another great event too look forward to with the Buzzcocks headlining.
