Pieface The Bassment 20/07/18

Another full weekend of fun, running out of stamina at the moment. This Friday saw us back to the Bassment for Pieface, a Humble Pie, Small Faces and Faces tribute. In my opinion probably the best band who cover Steve Marriott’s music. The lead singer for Pieface is our old mate from Junior Jump, a great showman who is backed by a very tight band. Any group who boast a Hammond are half way to being great without even trying.

Anyway expert timing saw us descend the stairs just to catch the band doing their first number. They rattled through all the usual Small Faces numbers, “Tin Soldiers,” “Watcha gonna do about it,” “All or nothing,”” Afterglow of your love” and all what made them one the best bands of the time. Not too much Humble Pie though, “Natural born boogie” was played and I think “Black Coffee,” but I am not much of an expert on them. I should have asked Gary or Ash who were with me. Then the Faces, “Oh la la,” “Cindy Incidentally,” a storming rendition of the Temptations “I know I’m losing you,” finishing with a singalong to“Maggie May,” as an encore.

A lot more was played as they were on for about an hour and three quarters. It was all excellent, all good fun, it was just a shame that more people didn’t go. I have seen them before and will definitely see them again, highly recommended.

I had a lot of things to do during the day, Saturday, which meant I sadly missed the Prince of Orange reunion at the Black Bull but I did make the Railway at Witham in the night for a super night of soul music from the good people from the Essex Northern Soul Club, with some fun dancing with good friends.

If you are about this Friday, at the Essex Arms next to Brentwood Station. There is a great band on called the Electric Stars. Saturday night has the White Horse in Chelmsford (Not the Great Baddow one), hosting a night of Reggae and Soul music from Vince of Tighten Up fame. A good fun and friendly night.

Go out and enjoy yourselves,
