Chancellor Hall · first-hand memory
8 October 1978 — The Enid / The End
The memory
The site owner remembers both The Enid and The End being advertised for the Chancellor Hall period around 8 October 1978, but remembers not going to either.
What this tells us
This is valuable first-hand evidence about what was being advertised or publicised in Chelmsford. It does not prove that both shows took place, and it does not by itself decide whether The Enid or The End actually played on 8 October.
That distinction matters because surviving contemporary Record Mirror issues themselves disagree: the 30 September issue gives The Enid, while the 7 October issue gives The End. The archive therefore keeps the two possibilities visible rather than choosing one.
Archive decision
8 October 1978 remains unresolved. The personal memory strengthens the case that both names were genuinely circulating in Chelmsford publicity. The next target is local primary evidence — a ticket, poster, handbill, newspaper advert/report, photograph or another audience memory.
