Memorabilia Cross-Reference

A working bridge between the newly supplied memorabilia and the older Chelmsford Rocks archive. This page does not promote a memorabilia item into a confirmed event unless the surviving evidence supports that step.

How to read this: “Existing archive connection” means there is already a relevant venue, event, memory or research layer on this site. “Next useful check” is the smallest sensible research step before making a stronger historical claim.

MR-001
Skin Alley · Hawkwind · Decameron

Year not printed on supplied item. 1969 remains a research lead only.
Compare the flyer/ticket wording with contemporary Civic Theatre listings, newspapers or programme material before assigning a year.
MR-002
Northern Mod & Soul Club
Galleywood Youth Centre, Watchouse Road, Chelmsford; Sunday 21 April; 2.00pm–10.30pm; names Paul Spain, Sparky, Tim Bodeen and John Wisby.Venues currently records the wider Chelmsford venue network but does not yet have a dedicated Galleywood Youth Centre page.Undated local lead
Strong venue/event wording, but no printed year.
Search contemporary local press, club material or another surviving copy for the missing year. Do not infer it from style alone.

What this crosswalk changes

  • MR-001 now has a direct route into the existing Civic Theatre record rather than sitting in isolation.
  • MR-002 identifies Galleywood Youth Centre as a possible future venue record, but does not create one prematurely.
  • MR-004 identifies the YMCA/Tin Soldiers material as a research target that can be compared with the site's later Y Club history.
  • MR-003 is deliberately kept as memorabilia provenance rather than converted into unsupported event entries.
  • MR-005 remains in Away Gigs, preserving the archive's geographic boundary.

MR-006 · Vibrators poster crosswalk

Supplied object: Pure Mania tour poster.

Printed evidence: “26th Chancellor Hall Chelmsford”, in the June section of the tour itinerary. The date is therefore read as 26 June.

Existing archive connection: 26 June 1977 Vibrators event record and Chancellor Hall.

Evidence position: direct corroboration of artist + venue + day/month for the selected 26 June record. The poster itself does not print the year in the itinerary, so 1977 remains the event-record dating rather than a newly inferred printed fact. The separate 7 July record remains distinct.

Access and verification boundary

Where future checks require Essex Record Office material, the archive's current guidance distinguishes catalogue descriptions, online images/recordings, Searchroom access and material that has not yet been catalogued or digitised. Some sound recordings are online while others are Searchroom-only because of copyright restrictions.
