I just knewthat it was going to be a magical night. I had viewed thenew single “Soulchild” on youtube and also “Outloud”and instantly fell in love with this band. Goldray are apsychedelic rock band with Kenwyn House formerly fromReef on guitar, Leah Rasmussen on vocals, GeoffLaurens on bass and Chris Hardwick on drums. The band have been busy playing out live at various gigs andfestivals including Download festival, Bestival, Glastonbury,Camden Rocks festival and are soon to headline the CamdenChristmas Rock bash on December the 17th. . The band arecurrently finishing recording their full debut album, which isbeing mixed by renowned rock producer/mix engineer PedroFerreira. The opening song was "Outloud" and this was enough tocompletely captivate the audience, the mic was decoratedwith flowers and Leah came on with a full 1960s -70slooking colourful cape and danced around the stage --- Page 2 --- 25/05/2021 Goldray The Bassment [obsolete Chelmsford Rocks link omitted] 2/7 making waves. I was taken right back to my early youthback in the 70s and could have easily been in the 60s hadI been a bit older, it somewhat reminded me of AlexHarvey gigs possibly because Leah is such a great frontperformer and Kenwyn is a brilliant guitarist. I felt very privileged in the Bassment as its not often you seesuch a quality band in a very small venue, the sound was spot onperfect and would have made a very good live recording. Thenext track was "Diamond Road". Leah has a wonderful voice andreminded me of a cross between Kate Bush and Siouxsie Sioux. The concert continued with “Rising” that I understoodwas a new song and probably my favorite of the night, followed by "Oz"(segway) . The last song of the night wasthe new single soon to be released called "Soulchild" thatsaw Leah singing and lying on the stage floor to beeventully pulled up by Kenwyn. All I can say is that thiswill certainly be in my top gigs of all time and I cycledback to Great Baddow with a smile on my face all the wayhome and woke up still feeling the same. Many thanks toJon Morter and promoter Shakey for this one.
