Polk Theater, Tennessee Performing Arts Center Nashville, USA, 14.06.17. Gig Review - Joe Jackson in Nashville, Tennessee June 14th2017. It was with some trepidation that Nicky and I ventured outon Wednesday evening to see Joe Jackson at the TennesseePerforming Arts Center (TPAC) in downtown Nashville. Joe haslong been a favorite of mine since first seeing him back in 1979,but I had not seen him live since I went to the Jumpin' Jive tour atthe Hammersmith Palais with Colin Egleton back in 1982! This is one of my favorite images We started out at the Fleet Street Pub for a couple of pints of(well kept) Fullers London Pride and a Shepard's pie to get backinto the English mood! We arrived a few minutes before Joecame on, starting on his own at the Piano with beautiful versionsof "It's different for girls" and "Home Town". One by one onsubsequent songs the band took to the stage, including GrahamMaby on Bass. This is one of my favorite images He played a mixture of his best known tunes plus songs from hislatest Album "Fast Forward" (released in 2015) plus a couple ofreally good covers "Big Yellow Taxi" played in a New Orleanshonky tonk style and Bob Marley's "Johnny Was" (which I alwaysenjoyed when covered by Stiff Little Fingers). He also debutedone new song as yet unrecorded "Fabulousy aboslute". His latestsongs continue with biting social comment and the older songsseem as relevant today as when they were written in the 70s and80s. --- Page 2 --- 25/05/2021 Joe Jackson in Nashville [obsolete Chelmsford Rocks link omitted] 2/2 The rest of the set (which lasted just under 2 hours) comprised :-"Be my number two", "Fast forward", "Is she really going outwith him", "Real Men", "You can't get what you want until youknow what you want", "Kings of the City", "A little smile","Another World","Sunday Papers", "Keep on dreaming", "Ode toJoy", and "Steppin' out". He encored with "See no evil" and "Onemore time" before a final rendition of "A slow song". A great evening and if you get a chance you should go and seehim. I know this wasn't in Chelmsford but you can take the boy(and girl) out of Essex but you can't take Essex out of the boy(and girl)! Cheers. Julian Dench, June 2017.
