The Action at the Corn Exchange
The surviving Where & When index lists “The Action - Chelmsford Corn Exchange Saturday Scene - Jan 1966”. The following community recollections relate to that entry. They support a lead for further checking, but do not establish the exact date or independently confirm the performance.
Remembering the gig
Fred Mod wrote that he was a fan of The Action and believed they played the Corn Exchange in January 1966, asking whether anyone in the group had been there.
“Yep I was there. They seemed pretty muted compared to the Who!”
The attendee added that The Action later played at the 14-hour Technicolour Dream and recalled their later development into Mighty Baby. The name of this attendee is not present in the supplied text, so the recollection remains unattributed.
Related context
John Power mentioned publishing Blues Boom and Psychedelia and offered to send a copy after the disruption caused by the virus had eased. This is contextual discussion in the same thread; it is not presented as evidence for the Chelmsford gig.
