Archive Questions

A transparent list of source discrepancies and unresolved points that the archive has deliberately not “corrected” by guesswork. These are research prompts, not additional historical claims.

How to read this page: a question appears here because surviving material gives us more than one possibility, or because a selected record needs stronger source support. Where the archive already preserves the uncertainty on an event page or source index, this page simply makes that uncertainty easier to find.
DATE DISCREPANCY

The Who — Corn Exchange

The selected event record uses 23 January 1965, while the surviving archive material contains a date/source discrepancy. The discrepancy is retained rather than silently resolved.

CONFLICTING INDEX RECORDS

The Vibrators — Chancellor Hall

The selected event record is dated 26 June 1977, while the surviving Where & When index also contains a separate 7 July 1977 appearance. The archive does not currently collapse these into one event.

DATE NEEDS SOURCE CHECK

Dr Feelgood — Chancellor Hall

The Artists & Bands selected index currently records 7 November 1990, but the surviving Where & When source index contains “Chelmsford Chancellor Hall - 04.04.75 +”. These should not be reconciled without checking the underlying source material.

SOURCE / MEMORY DISTINCTION

People's Memories

Personal recollections remain separate from verified event records. The archive currently has a direct memory connection for The Who, while the Hendrix and Pink Floyd event pages do not claim matching memories.

SOURCE SCOPE

Where & When is broader than the selected event layer

The surviving Where & When index contains many more entries than the selected event records. A source-index entry is not automatically promoted into a full event page; stronger supporting material is required before making that change.

Research principle

The archive preserves uncertainty where the surviving material is uncertain. Future additions should strengthen a record with source material rather than make a clean-looking date or story by inference.

DATE DISCREPANCY

Pink Floyd — Corn Exchange

The selected event record uses 23 September 1967, while the surviving Where & When source index says 23.09.1966. The archive now records this as an explicit unresolved source/date discrepancy.

DIFFERENT RECORD

Adam & The Ants — Odeon

The selected event record is 13 December 1980 at the Odeon, while the surviving source index also contains an Adam& The Ants / Gods Toys entry dated 4 February 1979 at Chancellor. These have not been merged.
