Editorial Standards

The writing on Chelmsford Rocks is being checked for clear, consistent British English while preserving the character and evidence of the original archive.

Grammar & spelling

Pages, headings, navigation, captions, buttons and archive notes are checked for spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency.

British English is used throughout the site.

Proper names

Band names, artist names, venue names, song titles and historical titles are treated as proper names. They are not silently “corrected” simply because they look unusual.

Historical wording

Original wording from tickets, posters, programmes, photographs and personal recollections is preserved where it is part of the evidence. Editorial corrections are kept separate from quoted or transcribed source material.

Gig dates

Your supplied gig dates remain in the archive unless there is a later editorial decision to change them.

Confirmed means the current archive evidence supports the date. Subject to confirmation means the date is retained but the later evidence-checking pass has not yet been completed. It does not imply that the date is wrong.

New poster-based records: transcribe only what the source shows. When a day and month are present but the year is missing, mark the year with a question mark (for example, “21 December ?”). When no date is printed, use “?” and state that the source gives no date. Do not infer a year from a weekday or from memory alone; link each entry to its source and keep uncertainty visible.

Research comes after the rebuild

The current rebuild uses the supplied Library as its primary foundation. Web and external-source checks can be carried out afterwards, with any resulting changes documented rather than silently replacing the original archive record.

Build 231 quality pass

This pass adds the editorial standard to the archive navigation and makes the spelling, grammar and dating approach explicit for future build work.
