Johnny Cougar — Chancellor Hall, 18 June 1978
A contemporary Music Week tour advertisement gives Johnny Cougar at Chelmsford Chancellor Hall on 18 June 1978. This is a useful wider-venue record, not a ticket-backed local artefact.
The date
Sunday 18 June 1978
Artist: Johnny Cougar
Venue: Chancellor Hall, Chelmsford
The 3 June 1978 issue of Music Week carries a tour advertisement headed “A TOUR DE FORCE” and lists 18th Chelmsford–Chancellor Hall in Johnny Cougar's June itinerary.
Why it belongs in the archive
The Chancellor Hall story was broader than punk and new wave. This contemporary tour advertisement helps show the hall as a working 1978 music venue across a wider range of artists.
The archive keeps the evidence level visible: the advertisement is strong contemporary documentation of the planned date, but it is not the same thing as a surviving ticket, local newspaper report or first-hand attendance memory.
