Memorabilia Evidence Register

A working register for the five supplied memorabilia/event images added during this rebuild. This page deliberately separates what the object visibly establishes from what still needs independent confirmation.

Evidence rule: a poster or ticket is strong evidence for the wording, venue, date and price actually printed on it. It does not automatically establish an unprinted year, the full line-up, or that every detail on a later reproduction is contemporary.
MR-001 · Local event lead

Skin Alley / Hawkwind / Decameron

Printed: Civic Theatre, Chelmsford · Sunday 21 December · 7.30 · 7/6.

Established from supplied image: the three acts, venue, day/date, time and ticket price are visibly printed.

Still open: year. The image itself does not print one.

Next research: compare the printed combination and date against contemporary newspapers, programmes and archive catalogue records before promoting a year to the main event index.

MR-002 · Local event lead

Northern Mod & Soul Club

Printed: Galleywood Youth Centre, Watchouse Road, Chelmsford · Sunday 21 April · 2.00pm–10.30pm. Paul Spain, Sparky, Tim Bodeen and John Wisby are named.

Established: venue, day/date, times and visible names.

Still open: year and whether all named people are performers, organisers or otherwise involved.

Next research: search contemporary local press, mod/soul club material and surviving personal collections.

MR-003 · Local event lead

The Gents / The Way Out

Printed: YMCA Chelmsford · Wednesday 29 May · 8.00 till 11.15 · £2.50. The Tin Soldiers Mod Society and 'New Direction' National Tour wording are also visible.

Established: the advertised venue, day/date, time, price and wording on the supplied flyer.

Still open: year.

Next research: compare the flyer against contemporary YMCA/Tin Soldiers material, local newspapers and band tour records. Do not use an inferred year as the event date until corroborated.

MR-004 · Memorabilia

Dr Feelgood / Thin Lizzy / Vambo Rool / Sneakin' Suspicion / Sounds Heavy Metal Kids

Printed/visible: Rizla and music-related papers/badges photographed in a social-media post dated 21 September 2011.

Established: the objects shown and the date of the social-media post.

Still open: original issue dates, ownership history and any direct connection to a Chelmsford gig.

Next research: treat the objects as provenance/memorabilia evidence unless a separate source connects an item to a specific event.

MR-005 · Away archive

19th Lee Brilleaux Memorial Show

Printed: Oysterfleet Hotel, Canvey Island · Friday 4 May 2012 · doors 19.30 · £21 · ticket no. 071 · proceeds to Havens Hospice at Home.

Established: the ticket is dated and clearly belongs outside the Chelmsford venue archive.

Still open: none required for basic ticket identification; it remains an Away Gig / wider Essex memorabilia item.

Next research: cross-reference with the existing Away Gig material if the wider memorial series is expanded.

Why these are not all event records yet

The archive is intentionally conservative. The three Chelmsford flyers contain useful local event leads, but two do not print a year and the third also lacks one. The object photograph is memorabilia rather than a gig record. The Canvey Island ticket is a dated Away Gig item.

Essex Record Office's catalogue contains descriptions of archive material, while access varies between online material, Searchroom material and material that has not yet been catalogued or digitised. That makes a staged evidence trail useful when a supplied item points toward a record that has not yet been independently checked.
