Chancellor Hall · evidence record
Penetration / Cyanide — 12 January 1978
Archive status
Established appearance. The surviving ticket is accepted as genuine. The site owner did not attend this show, but reports that a friend did and confirms that the ticket is correct for the appearance.
Why this matters
This is a useful example of why the archive should not reject a gig simply because a later online list looks incomplete or contradictory. The ticket is the physical evidence; the friend's attendance is a separate first-hand memory supporting the event.
The date is kept as 12 January 1978. It is not merged with the separate 12 November 1978 Penetration advert or the surviving 13 May ticket, which is now dated to 1979 by independent evidence.
Evidence layers
- Surviving ticket: genuine ticket evidence for the Chancellor Hall appearance.
- First-hand attendance report: the site owner says a friend attended this particular show.
- Archive distinction: this remains a separate appearance from the other Penetration artefacts.
Research note
Online gig lists are useful finding aids but are not being allowed to override the physical ticket and first-hand evidence. If a contemporary newspaper advert or another original source turns up, it will be added as further corroboration rather than replacing the existing evidence.
