Bethnal — two Chancellor Hall appearances?
The documentary evidence points to Bethnal at Chancellor Hall in 1977 and 1979, while the surviving personal Where & When list records the memory more cautiously as “1977 or 78”. The site owner remembers seeing Bethnal but cannot now identify which date he attended.
30 October 1977 — Bethnal
Status: established secondary evidence. The Bethnal gig chronology lists Chancellor Hall, Chelmsford on 30 October 1977. The Chancellor Hall catalogue also lists Bethnal on that date, within a bill including The Heartbreakers, The Boys, Depressions, Models and Slaughter & the Dogs. A separate later gig listing confirms The Heartbreakers / The Models at Chancellor Hall on the same Sunday, although not every act on the fuller bill is independently confirmed there.
Important: this is not currently ticket-backed in the Chelmsford Rocks archive. It should remain separate from the 1979 appearance rather than being inferred from the user's memory alone.
Where & When personal source — “1977 or 78”
The surviving Where and When list records: “Bethnal - Chancellor Hall - 1977 or 78”. This is preserved as a personal-memory source, not treated as a precise date. It is important because it points the site owner’s original memory toward 1977 or 1978 rather than 1979.
18 March 1979 — Bethnal
Status: strong contemporary evidence. Contemporary Record Mirror and Smash Hits listings place Bethnal at Chelmsford Chancellor Hall on Sunday 18 March 1979. A later Bored Teenagers listing gives 25 March instead, so the archive keeps 25 March visible as a conflicting research lead rather than treating it as a second 1979 show.
The site owner's first-hand memory is that he definitely saw Bethnal at Chancellor Hall, but he cannot now confirm the exact date. That memory is valuable evidence of attendance, but it is deliberately not used to force the date.

The working documentary conclusion remains two appearances: 30 October 1977 and 18 March 1979. However, the personal Where & When list says “1977 or 78”, so the archive deliberately keeps the memory and the documentary dates as separate evidence layers.
One first-hand memory
The site owner remembers seeing Bethnal, but the date has not survived in memory. The archive keeps that uncertainty rather than pretending it has been resolved.
Still worth checking
A surviving Bethnal ticket, local newspaper advert, poster, photograph or other Chelmsford artefact could upgrade the 1977 record and settle exactly which show the site owner attended.
