Chancellor Hall — 1979 Sunday Sweep
14 January 1979 — Pursey's Package
The Angelic Upstarts / The Invaders. Strong contemporary evidence from Record Mirror. The tour notice gives Chelmsford Chancellor Hall on January 14. Evidence page.
4 February 1979 — Adam & The Ants
Photographic evidence and independent concert history already establish this appearance. The surviving photographs are credited to Jo Gahan in the existing archive.
11 March 1979 — The Undertones / Deep Throats
Strong contemporary tour evidence plus Ken Wrigley's first-hand recollection and the user's own attendance.
18 March 1979 — Bethnal (second recorded Chancellor Hall appearance)
Stronger contemporary date evidence, with first-hand attendance memory. The site owner remembers seeing Bethnal at Chancellor Hall but cannot now confirm the exact date. This first-hand attendance memory is preserved separately from the date evidence. Record Mirror (24 February) and Smash Hits (8 March) both place Bethnal at Chelmsford Chancellor Hall on Sunday 18 March. No surviving Chelmsford ticket or local artefact has yet been matched, and the first-hand memory does not settle whether the show was on 18 or 25 March. Evidence and date-reconciliation page.
25 March 1979 — Bethnal & The Next?
Bored Teenagers gives a later listing for Bethnal & The Next on 25 March. Because this conflicts with two contemporary sources pointing to 18 March, the archive keeps 25 March as a conflicting later listing and does not count it as a second 1979 Bethnal appearance. The working documentary date is 18 March. The separate 30 October 1977 Bethnal show is now recorded on the dedicated two-appearances page. Bethnal — two Chancellor Hall appearances.
22 April 1979 — Punishment Of Luxury / The Void
Listed by Bored Teenagers as a Chancellor Hall Sunday date. It remains a research lead until a stronger local or contemporary source is found.
13 May 1979 — Penetration / Cowboys International
Firmly established by the surviving Penetration ticket and contemporary Record Mirror tour advertising.
20 May 1979 — Essex Live
Modern English, AD3, Anorexia and other local acts are documented by the original advert, Essex Archives oral history and band-history evidence. The bill is kept carefully sourced because different surviving accounts vary in detail.
3 June 1979 — The Undertones / Shake
Ticket-backed and independently corroborated; this is the second confirmed Undertones Chancellor Hall appearance in 1979.
Research rule
This sweep deliberately distinguishes confirmed or strongly supported events from later database-only leads. A Sunday date is a useful search key, not proof that the concert happened.
