Penetration & Buzzcocks — Ticket Evidence
This page records what the surviving Chancellor Hall source PDF actually shows, and deliberately separates printed evidence from later catalogue labels and date reconstruction.
Penetration — separate appearances and evidence
12 January 1978 — Penetration / Cyanide
A separate Chancellor Hall listing gives 12 January 1978 for Penetration with Cyanide. The archive now has an important first-hand family/friend evidence note: the site owner did not attend this show, but reports that a friend did, and confirms that the surviving ticket for this date is genuine and belongs to that appearance.
Archive status: established by surviving ticket evidence plus first-hand recollection of a friend's attendance. This is now treated as a real Penetration Chancellor Hall appearance, separate from the 13 May 1979 ticket and the 12 November 1978 advert.
2. Pink ticket: Sunday, May 13th
2. Pink ticket: Sunday, May 13th
The first-page ticket is printed for Chancellor Hall, Chelmsford, Sunday, May 13th, with Penetration plus support. The ticket does not print a year.
The surviving source sheet labels this image “Penetration Ticket 1978”, but that label should not be treated as proof of the year. 13 May 1979 fell on a Sunday, so 1979 is a useful research lead; it remains a lead until an independent source or another surviving artefact confirms it.
Archive status: ticket confirmed; exact year unresolved.
3. White advert: Sunday, 12 November 1978
A separate Penetration advert on page 2 of the same source PDF is explicitly dated Sunday, 12th November 1978, at Chancellor Hall, Chelmsford. It advertises Penetration & Support.
This is a different artefact from the undated-year May ticket and should not be merged with it simply because both concern Penetration.
Archive status: dated documentary evidence for a Penetration appearance on 12 November 1978.
Buzzcocks — Sunday 12 March
The surviving Buzzcocks ticket on page 2 is printed for Chancellor Hall, Chelmsford, Sunday 12th March, ticket £1.50. The ticket itself does not print a year.
The surviving Chancellor Hall flyer in the source catalogue also shows March 12th — Buzzcocks plus The Slits. The existing event record is 12 March 1978. Because 12 March 1978 was a Sunday, the ticket date and the existing 1978 event record are consistent.
Archive status: substantially matched to the 12 March 1978 event record; the ticket itself remains yearless.

Why the distinction matters
- A catalogue caption such as “Penetration Ticket 1978” is not automatically the same thing as text printed on the ticket.
- Two Penetration artefacts can document two different appearances.
- A ticket can provide a strong day/month clue without printing the year.
- Calendar matching is a research aid, not by itself proof of the year.
