What’s New

This page records the continuing rebuild of the Chelmsford Rocks archive. It is a change log for the site structure and research tools, not a replacement for the historical source material.

Latest build

v497 adds a searchable thumbnail index of the first page of all 30 distinct source PDFs.

Recent improvements

  • v497: added a searchable visual index with first-page previews for all 30 distinct PDFs, linked from the Source Library and PDF reading pages.
  • v496: added first-page thumbnails for memorabilia PDFs 2, 3 and 4, each alongside its original file and readable page.
  • v495: added a reading guide for Chelmsford Rock Memorabilia files 2–4, with links to each PDF and its readable page.
  • v494: labeled the generated Buzzcocks / Evoke overview image in the Source Image Browser, distinguishing it from the original photographs.
  • v493: updated the Where & When label for the 2026–27 Black Frog schedule so it does not describe every listed date as upcoming.
  • v492: refreshed Image Archive counts: 49 unique files in the curated gallery and 421 preserved images in the thumbnail browser, with clearer wording about files not in the curated gallery.
  • v491: displayed eight recovered Jimi Hendrix / Corn Exchange photographs on the venue page and in the Image Archive.
  • v490: surfaced three more image groups: the historic Odeon exterior, a Jimi Hendrix/Corn Exchange contact sheet, and recovered Buzzcocks/Evoke poster and photos. The Evoke poster’s year remains unresolved.

  • v488: displayed five preserved source images alongside the Book of Freaks memory, the Essex Chronicle bands article, Radio Stars comments and the Undertones / Deep Throats source record.
  • v487: added previews to 73 local image links across event and source pages, each opening the full-size file.
  • v486: displayed the Steve FP Band photo on its Asylum event page and added a copy-edited version of Maurice Hyde’s memory while retaining the original wording.
  • v485: added thumbnails for 18 matched files in the Image Archive; visitors can now view them on the page and open each full-size image.

  • v481: fixed the decade-filter check on Where & When; filters now accept the 1960s through 2020s.
  • v480: improved grammar in the added event notes, removed three duplicate undated records from Where & When, and preserved supplied event titles and the original historical transcript.

Archive preservation rule

Historical material is preserved as supplied. Gig dates are not silently rewritten during the rebuild. Existing dates remain in place; where evidence is not yet established, the archive can mark a date Subject to confirmation. That label means it has not yet been checked, not that the date is wrong.

Research remains separate

Technical maintenance and archive presentation do not substitute for historical verification. Later research may add evidence or clarify a date, but it should be recorded transparently rather than silently replacing the material that was supplied to the archive.
