Evidence-led chronology

Chelmsford Folk Club Timeline

A chronology built from surviving Essex Record Office catalogue descriptions and oral-history records. Dates below identify the date of the source or recorded club session; they do not claim to be a complete history of every Folk Club night.

Evidence rule: catalogue records, oral histories and later research are kept as separate evidence types. A recollection can add context without being silently converted into a verified event record.

How to use this chronology

Recorded session

A surviving catalogue description identifies a recording made at or of a Chelmsford Folk Club session.

Oral history

A later interview preserves someone's recollection and experience. It may describe earlier years but remains an oral-history source.

Not a complete gig list

The timeline deliberately does not fill gaps between surviving records. Missing dates are left as gaps rather than guessed.
